Sydney has traditionally been Australia’s economic powerhouse, but it was revealed in a recent report from The Sydney Morning Herald that Melbourne contributed 40% of Australia’s national economic growth in 2019 and its growth rate is so bullish that it’s soon expected to take the top position.
This means that whether you’re a skilled worker or budding entrepreneur, there are opportunities aplenty in Melbourne and you’re catching the city when it’s on the crest of a wonderful economic wave.
- Safety
When you’re migrating with kids in tow, it’s terrifically important that you take care of safety concerns – but luckily Melbourne has plenty of pretty suburbs where crime is extremely low and community and civic responsibilities are prioritised.
According to financial comparison site Canstar, Melbourne’s safest suburb is The Patch, with 1.03 incidents per 100 residents, closely followed by Ferny Creek, Selby and Kallista. In general, most of Melbourne east is safe as houses, so any neighbourhood here could be a pretty wise pick.
- Transport
Melbourne is an easy city to get around and to get in and out of – which is super-important in terms of your daily commute, school runs and flying home to see friends and family when you need to.
Metropolitan trains, trams and buses are reliable and regular and a myki pass gets you all around town at a discounted price.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Airport is well-connected for local and international flights and has a host of amenities like airport parking from Looking4.com and superb shops and restaurants.
Sydney has its Harbour Bridge and Opera House, Cairns has easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and Perth has the sublime Swan River and beautiful Botanic Gardens on Mount Eliza.
