Transform your home with these interior design tips

At some point we have all imagined what our dream home would look like. If money was no object, most of us would choose to live in a different property than what we currently live in. The possibilities would be endless, although that’s not to say we don’t love our current homes. Sometimes it is just worth it to spruce it up a bit, either by painting the living room or using a company like NEKA Granite & Quartz to add some style to your kitchen/bathroom.

Chill Insurance‘s latest campaign #IdealIrishHome looks at what the ultimate Irish home would look like, based on surveys they have run over the years and it’s interesting to see what other people consider to be the ‘perfect’ home. It seems the respondents describe a four-bedroom, detached property in the suburbs with a large kitchen as their ideal home, which sounds absolutely amazing.

If you’re looking to transform your home into a wonderful abode, check out these minimal-effort interior design tips.

Make the living room feel bigger

The living room is one of the most used rooms in the house, so the last thing you want is for it to feel confined. If your living room is small or has a lot of furniture you can maximise the space by painting the walls a soft, light colour.

Another way to maximise the space is by using decorative mirrors. This will instantly give the illusion that the room is much bigger than it is. If you place the mirror directly across from the window, it will also add plenty of light to the room.

Mix and match patterns to add warmth

To create warmth and texture to a room, use a variety of patterns and colours. Whether it’s a rug, cushions or furniture, you can mix up your old pieces with new and this can help reflect your personality and style. You can find here a great selection of rugs – perfect for warming up a cold, hard floor and injecting a little interest and flair onto an otherwise plain surface.

To add extra warmth to a room, consider soft lighting, throws, and candles which will make the room feel much cosier. To soften the look of the room add some fresh flowers.

Trends come and go; choose timeless

Kitchen trends are always changing and it can be costly trying to keep up with them. Instead, try to pick something you know is timeless, such as gold and brass. Incorporate this classic style through cupboard handles, taps, or even a hanging pot rack. Try to incorporate your personal touch into the design of your home. If you’re not sure how to find that touch, have an interior designer guide you through the labyrinth of options until you find the right one.

Interior design is also about utility. For example, a hanging pot rack is extremely useful to have. It creates a feeling that the kitchen is always in use, as it should be, considering it’s one of the most used rooms in the house. But it also frees up a lot of room in your cupboards which is always a bonus.
