3 Ways To Keep Your Skin From Premature Aging

When you’re young, you likely never thought about how some of your daily activities could be causing your skin to age prematurely. But once you get past a certain age, keeping yourself looking and feeling young becomes a much bigger priority. However, if you wait until this point to start taking action against the aging of your skin, you’re going to be a bit behind. So to help you learn what you can do now to help your skin in the future, here are three ways you can keep your skin from premature aging.

Be Gentle With Your Skin Care

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to be gentle with your skin care. While you might think that you need to use abrasive products or techniques to get your desired effect or keep things clean and clear, the opposite is usually true.

For example, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you try not to scrub your skin too hard when you’re cleansing it. If you rub your skin aggressively, you’ll start to accelerate the aging of your skin. Additionally, if you use products that sting or burn your skin, your skin will become very irritated and will start to look and feel older in a very short period of time. So rather than using these techniques and products, try to be more gentle with your skin on a daily basis.

Focus On Hydration

To keep your skin from getting dry and looking too aged, you’re going to want to focus on hydration.

Not only should you hydrate your actual skin by applying moisturizer on a regular basis, but you should also try to keep your entire body more hydrated by drinking an ample amount of water. In fact, Cynthia Cobb, a contributor to Healthline.com, shares that drinking enough water to stay properly hydrated can help you flush toxins out of your skin as well as improve its elasticity over time.

Wear Sunscreen Where It Counts

While most people focus on putting sunscreen on their face as a way to fight against the premature aging that comes as an effect of too much sun exposure, it’s not only your face that you should be putting protective sunscreen.

According to Kathleen Felton, a contributor to Health.com, your neck and chest will also show signs of premature aging quicker than other areas of your body. Because of this, you should be sure that, when applying sunscreen, you put some on your neck and chest as well, even if you don’t think those areas will get as much sun as your face will.

To keep your skin from giving away your true age, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn how to stop premature aging from taking place.
