What To Do With Clothes You No Longer Need or Love

Everyone loves buying new clothes! Whether you need to replace clothing that you’ve outgrown or you really want that new jacket that just arrived at your favourite store.

Whatever the reason, there comes a time in everyone’s life when you find yourself with a pile of clothing that you no longer need or want. But what do you do with them?

There are several options available for getting rid of clothes that you no longer need or love.

1. A Friend or Family Member

Do you know the old saying, “one person’s junk is another person’s treasure?” So what you may be tired of or no longer want or need, a friend or family member may just fall in love with. Or maybe they have clothing they no longer want, and you can share!

So check with your friends and family and see if anyone would like your unneeded clothing.

2. Donate

The best thing you can do if you can’t find anyone to give your clothes to is clothes donation. You can help others less fortunate than you by donating your unwanted clothing.

So many local charities need clothing to help the homeless, the downtrodden, and those who have fallen on hard times. Put your clothing to good use and donate!

3. Sell Your Clothes

If you have clothing in good shape, why not sell them and get some of your money back? Have a yard or garage sale or advertise your clothing on Facebook Marketplace or eBay. There are many places you can sell your unneeded or unwanted clothing, and you’d be surprised how many people are looking for some good deals on used clothing.

4. Clothing Swaps

What are clothing swaps, you ask? Good question!

Clothing swaps are a very simple concept. You bring a bag of clothes to the swap, and each piece of clothing is equal to one token. You then find clothing you would like to have and spend your tokens to get that clothing. Pretty cool, right?

Not only do you get rid of your unwanted clothing, but you get to walk away with a whole new wardrobe. It’s a win-win for everyone!

What You Should NOT Do With Your Unwanted Clothing

The one thing you absolutely should not do with your unwanted clothing is to just throw them out with the garbage, where they’ll end up in a landfill.

Did you know that 350,000 tonnes of clothing go to the landfill each year in the UK? That comes out to approximately £140 million worth of perfectly good clothing just tossed out. So how many homeless people could you clothe a year?

You’ve now seen several options available for getting rid of clothes that you no longer need or love.

  • Give them to a friend or family member
  • Donate them
  • Sell them
  • Participate in clothing swaps

Any of these are great ideas and, more importantly, will keep clothing out of the landfills and used by someone that needs them!
