How Fitness and Wellness are Changing for the Better in 2020

If it seems like the fitness and wellness industries are in a constant state of flux, you’re right. For many years, it has been on fad after another, and sometimes the “expert” advice we get conflicts with things we’ve believed all our lives.

Literally, no one can agree on anything wellness. And that’s not likely to change any time soon. But there are some recent changes and trends that we should all be able to get behind.

In this post, we’re going to cover some of the ways fitness and wellness are changing for the better in 2020.

Focus on mental health

You can’t truly be well without focusing on your own mental and emotional wellbeing. And if this COVID pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that we all have a breaking point. Stress can and does get to each of us, and it’s important to find healthy ways to break through that stress.

When you feel stressed, you might be tempted to give in to those alcohol cravings in an attempt to self-medicate. But what we’re seeing is that although many people have been using alcohol as a crutch, many more are seeing the dangers and ditching the drink for healthier ways of handling stress.

Personal Empowerment

Because all classes and gyms were closed for an extended time, many people found ways to get in shape from the comfort of their own homes. And while gyms have resumed operation to some degree, it’s good to know that we can remain fit.

We’ve learned we don’t ever really have to rely on a third-party product or service to keep us on track. We know can take online classes, go for a run or start a cross-fit program from our living rooms because now we’ve done it. And that’s empowering.

More time outdoors

It can be therapeutic to spend time outdoors and many of us have turned to outdoor activities as a form of exercise. Let’s face it. With so many of us working from home and generally spending more time at the homestead, we’re all looking for an excuse to spend time outdoors.

More people are falling in love with outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking and biking. And even when the restrictions lift completely, we can expect that this passion will continue in our hearts.

Fitness isn’t expensive

One of the trends we’re seeing along with personal empowerment is inexpensive or free self-serve wellness plans. We’re all realizing that you don’t really have to spend a dime to get fit and be well. You just need to commit to a plan and follow through. It takes work, but fitness definitely doesn’t have to cost money.

Fitness and wellness are definitely changing for the better in light of COVID-19 restrictions. But still, it’s up to each of us to get on board and make changes for ourselves. Fitness may have seemed to become more accessible, but it’s still work. Are you ready to commit to your own wellbeing?
