How to Enjoy a Pest-Free Home

Nothing is as calming as enjoying a cup of coffee in your kitchen or watching your favorite show in your living room. The peace that comes with being home is undoubtedly unmatched. However, that peace can be disrupted by the sight of a creepy, scary pest – whether it’s a spider, cockroach, bedbug, or termite. Pests have a way of creeping into the house, taking over the entire space, and causing havoc wherever they pass. Well, some like spiders (except the black widow and brown recluse) are only a nuisance, but can still bite when provoked. Others like mosquitoes, rodents, and cockroaches are known to cause property damage and even spread diseases.

Considering the downsides of pests, it’s only reasonable to want to keep them away from your home. To help point you in the right direction, we spoke to one Longview pest control expert, and here were his sentiments regarding how you can enjoy a pest-free home.

Understand the pests in your area

Pests thrive in different areas. Some cities are prone to spiders and scorpions and other mosquitoes and cockroaches. So, your first step to preventing an infestation should be to identify the pests that are in your area. This way, you will be able to devise a plan to keep them away. If you think about it, it would be hard to prevent what you are not aware of. So you have to know what you are dealing with as your first line of defense.

Understand pest behavior

If there is one thing that all pests share in common, it is their high affinity to filth. Pests love dirt – they thrive in it. If your homestead offers that in plenty, then there is no reason why these pests should keep off. With that in mind, now is the best time to eliminate any filth, including clutter and garbage. Be sure to keep your surfaces clean and all foods tightly sealed in pest-proof containers.

Inspect your home for entry points

Pests have tiny bodies and can squeeze themselves into small cracks and crevices on the walls. So, if you have any openings – large or small – you want to seal them off completely. This way, it will be hard for these pests to get in. Additionally, you should carefully check the boxes and any other stuff you bring from outside to ensure you don’t bring in pests.

Keep the outside clean

Remember, pests are attracted to filth – so don’t just focus inside your home. You also want to check the exteriors for the same. Trim the bushes and grass and chop off any branch that extends towards your home. Put firewood and garbage at a safe distance from your house and also clear any standing water.

Call an expert

If your neighbors have an infestation or you suspect an infestation in your house, you shouldn’t hesitate to call a pest control expert. It is easy and cheaper to control pests when they aren’t widespread. Pests multiply at an alarming rate and can also cause diseases as well as property damage. The earlier you deal with them, the better your chances of not being exposed to these risks.
